inspiration
Light is very special and plays a big part in my inspiration,.
Take this photo of the blurred background.
Notice there are circles, this style is called Bokeh.
The lens blurs the image until the light forms these circles.
During Christmas this style of photography is used a lot and maybe it’s those feelings of joy, celebration and family that I associate with this style.
These circles of light are my main inspiration to why I paint circles.
Although this is in a represntational way, I prefer to paint more intuitively.
Aside from my abstract paintings I do enjoy painting in a more representational style. This can take the form of mostly landscapes, buildings and sometimes portraits and even more rarely wildlife.
Many commissions are in this style as my clients tend to have a vision themselves of what they would like, or a place that holds a special meaning to them. They are aware that I will of course add my own twist and painting style compared to the reference.
Inspiration can come from everywhere.
For example a was told about Joycelyn Bell Burnell an astrophysicist born in Lurgan. Her story not only inspired me but many children i work with in our community art groups. Here is my tribute, a portrait of her and a visual reference of the sound pulsars she discovered.
Most of my paintings are created using acrylic paint but using a variety of difference techniques, including impasto and airbrushing.
